Elemental Alliance finished out at 103,000 words, and while I started writing the sequel, Elemental Bloodlines, before fall semester started (my day job is an adjunct writing instructor, by the way) I was only able to get 37,000 words into the delicious details before my writing became shelved by my teaching.
However, as author friends do, they encourage you to write as much as possible, especially during NaNoWriMo. So while I didn't write 50,000 words in the month of November, I was encouraged to pull the sequel out of its file and begin working on it again in between the small down moments of teaching, prepping, and grading.
Today I'm proud to announce that Elemental Bloodlines just reached 50,015 words in its original manuscript. The length should be comparable to Elemental Alliance, which means I'm close to half finished with the sequel and it feels amazing.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to run to teach another writing class.
